Prior to December 2007, the Albanian Muslim community of Victoria occasionally marked both Fiter and Kurban Bayram prayers on different days. This was mainly due to the fact that each Albanian Islamic Society of Victoria observed different methods to mark these important dates i.e. scientifically calculated phases of the moon or physical human sighting of the new moon.
The Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS) held its annual Fiter Bayram Function at 501 Receptions on Sunday 14th October 2007.
It was a very successful night with over 400 people in attendance. Everyone had a wonderful evening, with a real focus on ensuring all the children were included in the festivities.
The Attorney General’s Office – The Hon. Phillip Ruddock – invited the Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS) to Canberra on the 2nd and 3rd of August 2007 to attend a conference on National Security for Diverse Communities.
An elite team of players was formed to represent the Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS) in the 8th Annual IISSL Islamic Indoor Soccer Super League Cup, which was held on Sunday 22nd July 2007 at Albert Park Lake.
In early 2007, the Committee of the Albanian Community of New South Wales (NSW) invited Imam Rexhep Idrizi and I to view the proposed building and land that would be established as the very first Albanian Community Centre in NSW (and Australia) and also to attend an important meeting with members of the Albanian Community in NSW.
On Sunday 7 January 2007, the Albanian Sakie Society in Dandenong played host to the biannual Albanian Islamic Societies of Victoria meeting.
In December 2006, a jointly organised visit by the Government of Albania and Kosova heralded the very first visit by the Director, Mr. Naim Dedushaj, of Kosova Office for Albanian Diaspora to Australia.
In late 2006, I received a request for a meeting with the newly elected President of the Albanian Community in New South Wales (NSW), Mr. Hasan Haxhijaj.
